- STATEMENT / DECLARACIÓN ARTÍSTICA
In my artworks I investigate with social issues, particularly those related to
political domination in our modern societies. I have been working on problematic
social matters creating public installations and on-site artworks. I have been
interested in issues such as migrations, relationships between native and
migratory cultures in one specific area/neighborhoods, questions of how to live in
disadvantaged neighborhoods; those ones where authorities do not invest money
in to improve them, forgotten by the government and city council. Other works
explain some of the functions of notable buildings, their indoors activity as a
strategy to bring their significance to the citizens closer.
To address these
matters, I like to use satire to capture the viewers' attention and get a different
perspective to an unjust reality. Through humor, observes are more objective and
receptive, taking distance due to the fact we are highly influenced by social
problems. On the other hand, I have worked on topics in a more personal level,
where individuals’ behavior are presented as common patterns in all human
beings which then, it is absurd to think of individualism: couple, perception,
appearance, hierarchy are similar in many cultures.
I am currently researching my dissertation at Complutense University of Madrid,
Spain, PhD in Fine Arts. Nowadays I am into different fields like the role of artists
and humanists interested transhumanism, questions about how scientists and
humanists could work together; Which is the way of practicing/working on an
ArtScience project successfully? How does an artist contribute inside an
ArtScience idea? And a scientist? Another part of my interests is focus on the
fact (and its analysis) that some artists are interested in different science areas
and what can them bring to society though research and art –science projects.
What are the benefits of cross-disciplinary studies? Do we need common areas
where the humanities and sciences exchange knowledge?
